Smith Signs on for 2012

2011 Lady Supercats MVP and SEABL All-Star Deanna Smith will be back with Geelong for the 2012 season.

Currently playing in the WNBL with the Bendigo Spirit, Smith was instrumental in the Lady Supercats debut season last year. It was a come back mission for Smith, who missed the 2010-2011 WNBL season due to having shoulder surgery. Although missing several games for the Lady Supercats at the start of the 2011 SEABL season due to her ongoing recovery from the surgery, Deanna averaged 20.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game in 2011 and was also in contention for league MVP. …Read More

Muhammad Makes His Return

The St Laurence Geelong Supercats are pleased to announce that two time SEABL Defensive Player of the Year, Isma’il Muhammad, will be returning to the club for a fourth season in 2012.

Muhammad was invited to both the Charlotte Bobcats and Atlanta Hawks NBA training camps after the 2011 SEABL season, and chose to go to the Michael Jordan owned Charlotte team. It was not the first time the Bobcats had shown interest, with Muhammad flying back to the USA in the middle of the 2010 SEABL season for a try-out with the team.

Although he performed well throughout the NBA training camp, including top scoring in the team’s inter-club practice match and playing a key defensive role in the Bobcats first official NBA pre-season win over the Hawks, numerous trades and players returning from injury meant that the Bobcats did not have any room left on their roster to sign another player, and Muhammad was cut three days before the beginning of the NBA season.

While disappointed to just miss out on that NBA contract, the good news for Geelong fans is that Muhammad will be returning to the club for the 2012 SEABL season. He has become a firm crowd favourite, known for his incredible dunking ability and tenacious defense. Muhammad becomes only the third import player to play four consecutive seasons for the club, with Jamal Brown and Rodney Walker being the other two.  …Read More
