The St Laurence Geelong Supercats are pleased to announce that two time SEABL Defensive Player of the Year, Isma’il Muhammad, will be returning to the club for a fourth season in 2012.
Muhammad was invited to both the Charlotte Bobcats and Atlanta Hawks NBA training camps after the 2011 SEABL season, and chose to go to the Michael Jordan owned Charlotte team. It was not the first time the Bobcats had shown interest, with Muhammad flying back to the USA in the middle of the 2010 SEABL season for a try-out with the team.
Although he performed well throughout the NBA training camp, including top scoring in the team’s inter-club practice match and playing a key defensive role in the Bobcats first official NBA pre-season win over the Hawks, numerous trades and players returning from injury meant that the Bobcats did not have any room left on their roster to sign another player, and Muhammad was cut three days before the beginning of the NBA season.
While disappointed to just miss out on that NBA contract, the good news for Geelong fans is that Muhammad will be returning to the club for the 2012 SEABL season. He has become a firm crowd favourite, known for his incredible dunking ability and tenacious defense.
