April 23: St Laurence Geelong Supercats 91 (J. Bullock 24, I. Muhammad 22, N. Herbert 14) defeated Mount Gambier Pioneers 74 (D. Jeffree 19, A. Tipton 15, A. Rice 14) at the Mount Gambier Ice House

The St Laurence Geelong Supercats have won their third game in seven days to extend their winning streak to 6 after a solid win in Mount Gambier on Friday night.

Andrew Rice, who led the scoring for Mount Gambier at the Arena earlier in the season, opened the scoring for the home side but was immediately answered by a J’Nate Bullock 3 for Geelong. Bullock and Isma’il Muhammad combined to build the lead out to 6 points before Andy Tipton bought the margin back level with a three of his own. Braith Cox, Nathan Herbert and Nick Owusu then built the lead back to six points, which they held for the remainder of the quarter.

The Supercats 12 nil run to start the second quarter, including a three from Jamie Medved, set up the 25 points to 12 quarter in the visitors favour as the Supercats broke the game wide open by the half with a 51 to 32 point margin. Herbert, Bullock and Muhammad did most of the damage as Rice failed to repeat his Arena form.

The teams went basket for basket in the third quarter as Bullock and Muhammad continued to build their personal tallies for the game. With Mount Gambier unable to convert their shots the Supercats drew ahead to a 26 point lead at the last break.

Bullock shot the first four points of the last quarter to give the Supercats their biggest margin of the night, 30 points. From this point on the Supercats tired with 3 games in 7 days taking their toll as the Pioneers went on a mini fightback. While the Supercats were never in danger of loosing, Mount Gambier to their credit, in front of their home fans, halved the margin before the Supercats ran out 17 point winners 91 to 74.

Bullock led all scorers with 24 points while Muhammad had 22 and Herbert 14. The whole team could take a bow, however shooting a remarkable 85% from the free throw line missing just 4 shots from their 27 attempts. Dallas Jeffree was the best for the Pioneers with 19.

The Supercats return to the Arena next Saturday May 1 at 7:30 to play the Albury/Wodonga Bandits.
