The St Laurence Geelong Supercats are excited to announce that American Import Isma'il Muhammad has re-signed for his second season with the club. The 198cm Muhammad averaged 19.3 points at 51% from the field and 7.4 rebounds in 2009 for the Supercats. His athletic play, tremendous defence and thunderous dunks had the fans out of their seats throughout the season.
New Head Coach Jamie O’Loughlin is looking forward to Muhammad’s return “Isma’il is an amazing athlete and very talented player who had a great season for our club in 2009. The fans love him and the players enjoy playing with him. Having worked with him last year and speaking to him recently I am confident he will have an even better 2010.”
There is more to Muhammad’s than meets the eye. “The first thing people comment on is his athletic ability because it is outstanding but equally important to the club and the team is that he is a leader and a quality person. He was captain at Georgia Tech when they went to the NCAA Final Four in 2005, he knows how to lead” said O’Loughlin.
Off the court Isma’il is to play an integral role in developing young Surf Coast players with the Alcoa Basketball Academy and McDonalds Superhoops as a part of his tenure with the St Laurence Geelong Supercats.
His personality has made him a real favourite with the Geelong Community wherever he goes.
The club looks like retaining its core group from 2009, add some young talent from recent open trials and sign another import in the near future. With a quality playing group, a new Coaching Staff and new General Manager the club is looking forward to a successful season.
The season tips off from March the 12th 2010.
