The Board of the St Laurence Geelong Supercats announced today they have reluctantly accepted the resignation of General Manager, Damian Waight. Waight departs to take up a Community Development role with Golden Plains Shire.
Supercats’ chairman, Keith Roderick, said Waight’s tenure at the Supercats concludes on very good terms. “We are obviously saddened to lose such a capable General Manager however we are also very proud to have played a small part in the development of Damian’s career. We see this as an opportunity to find a new General Manager who brings new ideas and methods to the club as Damian did back at the beginning of 2006.” Roderick said.
Waight will continue as General Manager of the club until 10th September 2009. The Supercats will commence the nationwide search for a replacement immediately.
Waight stated he has enjoyed every minute of his involvement with the Supercats. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my four seasons at the Supercats. The role has been immensely rewarding and provided great development opportunities for me. I leave the Supercats with a great deal of pride and believe the club is well placed to continue to achieve success on and off court in the future. While championship wins have provided memorable moments, the relationships I have formed with quality people are the greatest highlight of my time at the Supercats,” Waight said.
“I strongly recommend that anyone wishing to advance a sports management career, seriously consider expressing on interest in the St Laurence Geelong Supercats General Manager position. This is an exciting and vibrant place, with outstanding support and significant potential growth to look forward to.”
“I will continue to support the club in seasons to come. Go Supercats”
