The St Laurence Geelong Supercats are proud to announce that Nathan Herbert will play his 200th game for the club on Friday night in the SEABL preliminary final against the Hobart Chargers in Hobart.
Herbert joins elite company within the Supercats becoming only the second player, behind Jarrod Leonard, to achieve the milestone.
A star of the local Basketball Geelong program with the YMCA club and Geelong representative teams, Herbert, has progressed to become a NBL championship player with the South Dragons.
The Adelaide 36ers recently secured Herbert for the upcoming season which will be the guard’s third in the NBL. He was recently rewarded for his solid form with a call up to the Australian Boomers squad for the 2009 international fixtures.
NBL and international duties has not diminished Herbert’s love for playing with the Supercats. He travels each weekend from Adelaide to Geelong to continue playing for the Supercats whilst training with the 36ers.
Herbert is proud of his achievement, but knows there is more at stake this Friday night than just a milestone game. “I feel honoured to play 200 games for the Supercats and the milestone will be one I look back on fondly one day. I suppose the biggest focus for me and the team this week is winning a preliminary final and continuing our finals campaign. Our recent form has been good and we believe that if we play to our best we will be very hard to beat,” Herbert said.
Nathan Herbert career milestones:
• SEABL conference Championships (3): 2005, 2006, 2007
• ABA National Club Championships: 2006
• 2 time Club MVP – 2006 and 2008
• SEABL U/23 player of the year – 2005
• SEABL all conference team - 2008
• Club 2nd highest points all time (2994)
• Club 4th Highest rebounds all time (1115)
The Supercats travel to Hobart to take on last year’s SEABL Champions – the Hobart Chargers this Friday. It promises to be a classic final with the Chargers winning the past three encounters between the two teams. The Supercats have won their past two games against quality opposition, Brisbane in the last regular season game and then Sandringham in the SEABL semi final to set up the preliminary final.
