The St Laurence Geelong Supercats have announced Braith Cox as captain for the 2009 season.
The Supercats have engaged Leading Teams to conduct the leadership development program in 2009. Initially, a four man leadership group was appointed; Cox, Nathan Herbert, Jamie Medved and Jason Reardon. Subsequent work with Leading Teams led to the appointment of Braith Cox as captain - the 15th Supercats’ history.
Cox is honoured to accept the role and will be working hard with fellow members of the leadership group to deliver success. “John Fitzgerald from Leading Teams has helped the players put in place an outstanding Leadership group in Nathan Herbert, Jamie Medved and Jason Reardon. Together we will be working very closely to produce the most professional team possible for Geelong” Cox said.
Cox is a veteran of over 300 SEABL games and has enjoyed an NBL career with Perth Wildcats and Melbourne Tigers and was part of the Tigers’ 2006 NBL championship team. He arrived at the Supercats in 2007 after a playing the early part of his career with the Ballarat Miners. He is considered as one of the premier point guards in the competition, making the 2008 SEABL All Conference team.
The Supercats currently sit 4th on the ladder with a 4 wins and 4 losses to date. They face the 2008 SEABL champions, the in-form Hobart Chargers, this Saturday at the Geelong Arena and then head to Nunawading on Sunday to take on the winless Spectres. Tickets can be purchased on 5277 1711.
