The St Laurence Geelong Supercats are pleased to announce that three time SEABL championship coach, Mark Leader, has again signed on as Head Coach.
2009 will be Leader’s eighth season at the helm of the Supercats, a reign that has netted the club three SEABL Championships and one ABA National Tile. Leader has also overseen the development of many young local players including the recruitment of Nathan Herbert and Dean Brebner to the NBL.
Leader is excited to take up the challenge again and is spurred on by the 2008 result which saw the club bow out in the preliminary final. “There is no doubt I have a renewed hunger for the season ahead and we are determined to go further than we did in 2008. We did a lot right this year, but not winning a championship is certainly a big motivator to go again and get back to the top.” Leader said.
Supercats’ General Manager, Damian Waight, said the club was very pleased to have the Head Coach appointed and preparations for 2009 were underway. “Mark has a fantastic coaching record not only in terms of win / loss, but his has done a great job developing local players. We are pleased that he is at the helm as we strive to reclaim championships in 2009.” Waight said.
The club can now commence local player contract negotiations ASAP with the core group of 2008 expected to sign on for 2009. Pre season dates will be finalised soon with the first session expected in late October or early November.
