St Laurence Geelong Supercats Nathan Herbert and Braith Cox have been awarded for their outstanding performances in the 2008 season with selection to the All-SEABL South conference team. The tem is selected by the player's peers with selection on a points system by opposing captains and coaches.
Recent Sydney Spirit NBL recruit DAVID GRUBER has been rewarded for
another sensational SEABL season with a position on the All SEABL South
Men team. Joining him in the frontcourt is JOE WERNER of the Kilsyth
Cobras and NATHAN HERBERT of the Geelong Supercats. 300 Game inductee
BRAITH COX (Geelong Supercats) receives his sixth selection and is
joined in the back court with Frankston Blues youngster ANDREW HARMS.
DAVID GRUBER led all players in the South team with a maximum 12 votes,
averaging 25.3 points, 13.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. This is
Gruber’s fourth consecutive selection to an All SEABL Team. Gruber
dominated the league with three Team of the Month recognitions and two
Player of the Week accolades, and was also awarded with the South Men
Defensive Player Award.
Despite receiving many doubts before the season started, Kilsyth Cobras
JOE WERNER has proved many fans wrong with a dominating performance in
his first season of SEABL basketball. Joe averaged 20.9 points at
54.9% and led the league in rebounds with 15.4. Joe produced a double
double in all but four games this season and recorded a season best 26
rebounds in round 3 against Albury/Wodonga.
After spending the SEABL off-season playing with the South Dragons in
the NBL, NATHAN HERBERT has had an outstanding season and deserves his
first All SEABL Team selection. Herbert played a vital part in getting
the Supercats to second place on the ladder, but fell short of a fourth
consecutive Grand Final appearance. Herbert has been a consistent
scorer all season averaging 23.3ppg (4th), 8.7rpg (10th) and led the
league in both Foul Shot percentage (88.6%) and 3 point percentage
(42.8%).
With five 30+ pt games including a season high 45pts in round 5 against
Bendigo, Frankston Blues 23 year old ANDREW HARMS earns his first All
SEABL team selection. Harms had a standout season and have been a
major reason for the Blues league leading 22-4 regular season record.
Playing in his 13th SEABL season, BRAITH COX celebrated his 300th game
earlier in the season and has capped off a milestone year with his
sixth All SEABL team appearance. Braith averaged 15.7 points, 2.8
rebounds and led the league with 5.8 assists. After a back-up role
last year, Braith stepped up into the starting five this year and
hasn’t let his coach down, dishing the ball superbly to open team mates.
