The SEABL announced today that the St Laurence Geelong Supercats will host the SEABL Men Championship game this year at The Arena on Saturday 16th August. The Men’s Championship game is a new initiative agreed to by the SEABL Clubs at last year’s Annual League Meeting. This game will see the East Conference Champion versus South Conference Champion to determine the overall Men’s Champion.
Several tenders were received, with the Geelong Supercats being awarded the honour of hosting the 2008 Championship game. “The Supercats organisation produces a high class game night presentation, and I’m sure will conduct a fantastic event that will showcase the SEABL to the entire basketball community”, said SEABL General Manager Mark Chivers. Geelong is currently second on the South Men ladder, and Supercats General Manager Damian Waight said “The St Laurence Geelong Supercats were excited to be awarded the Championship game, and preparations are well on the way to making it a very successful night for the club and the SEABL”. The SEABL Men’s Champion will represent the SEABL at the Australian Basketball Club Championships Final Four Weekend starting on 30th August at Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre. The Supercats have had a strong start to the season and hope this game can be a springboard to re claiming the ABA National Title that eluded them in 2007. Ticket sales details for the Championship game will be released at a later date. |
